AIOps vs agentic DevOps vs AI SRE
AIOps commonly focuses on interpreting operational signals; AI SRE focuses on reliability work; agentic DevOps can span delivery and infrastructure decisions. The categories overlap, and vendors use them differently. Compare the actual task, required evidence and permission boundary instead of assuming that one label includes every capability of another.
Use the operational job as the comparison
The following are working distinctions for a buying conversation, not a universal standard or a vendor feature ranking. Ask each candidate to demonstrate the exact workflow you need.
| Category | Typical question | Evidence to inspect |
|---|---|---|
| AIOps | Which alerts may describe the same service problem? | Telemetry sources, grouping logic, missed and incorrect associations |
| AI SRE | What should the responder investigate next? | Service impact, timeline, hypotheses and recovery constraints |
| Agentic DevOps | How should this delivery or infrastructure task proceed? | Repository and system context, change plan, gates and verification |
| ITOps | Who owns this infrastructure request or lifecycle change? | Inventory, identity, service ownership and request history |
| AgentOps | How are AI agents themselves observed and operated? | Agent traces, evaluations, permissions and runtime behavior |
One failed release can involve several categories
Consider an illustrative service whose error rate increases after a rollout. Signal analysis might group related alerts. A reliability workflow might investigate user impact, timing and alternative causes. A delivery workflow might prepare a change with validation and approval. They can share context without having identical responsibilities.
During evaluation, remove a relevant signal or introduce an unrelated deployment event. Inspect whether the tool acknowledges incomplete evidence and avoids treating correlation as proof. A strong alert summary does not establish that the same product can safely execute a rollback.
Where a narrower product may be the better fit
If your main need is telemetry collection and querying, assess that foundation directly. If it is incident coordination, test responder handoff and communication. If it is repository-to-cloud delivery, evaluate build inputs, validation, infrastructure decisions and release approvals. Breadth is useful only when the connections and operating model support your task.
Record must-have capabilities separately from preferences. A missing production control cannot be offset by an attractive interface or an unrelated feature. Request current documentation and an agreed pilot rather than assigning coverage from category labels.
OrbOps focuses on reviewable infrastructure operations
O2 AI brings specialist agents to delivery, infrastructure, access, incident, cost and compliance-support work. Evaluate whether the shared operational context helps your team prepare and review these decisions. Its private-beta description is not a claim to replace every observability system, ITSM tool or enterprise platform.
This site does not establish third-party AI-agent observability or non-human identity governance. If your requirement is operating arbitrary AI agents, bring that up explicitly rather than inferring it from the word agentic. Confirm current connection availability and execution boundaries with the team.
