What is agentic DevOps?

Agentic DevOps uses software agents to interpret engineering context, prepare a plan and coordinate permitted work across delivery and infrastructure operations. Unlike a fixed script, an agent can adapt its proposed steps to the situation. That flexibility needs clear permissions, evidence and verification; it is not permission to make unrestricted production changes.

Follow the decision, not just the generated command

A useful operating loop starts with a specific task and ends with independently checked system state. A generated plan is an intermediate result. Treat source observations, inferred explanations, proposed actions and confirmed outcomes as different records.

For an illustrative failed release, begin with the repository revision, deployment event and affected service. Ask what changed and what evidence is missing before proposing recovery. A deployment near the start of an incident is a lead to investigate, not proof of its cause.

An AI DevOps agent does not replace a delivery pipeline

A pipeline executes defined jobs and gates. A copilot can help a person interpret or write a change. An agent may coordinate several steps using connected context. A platform can provide the permissions, shared state and operational records around those agents. These roles can coexist; the label alone does not establish capabilities.

Keep repeatable validation in your established pipeline. Evaluate whether an agent improves preparation and investigation without bypassing tests or weakening the release gate. If an integration cannot execute a required action, the workflow should hand it back to a person instead of implying completion.

How OrbOps approaches agentic DevOps

OrbOps AI builds O2 AI, a private-beta platform of specialist agents for reviewable infrastructure operations. O2 Shipper coordinates repository analysis, infrastructure, validation, approval-gated deployment, observability and verification. Other agent pages describe delivery planning, incident context, access, cost and compliance-support workflows.

Start with one workflow and confirm the beta scope with the team. A product description or illustrative scene is not evidence of a tested connector, a customer outcome or general availability. Agree the available operations, credentials and review responsibilities before connecting your environment.

Keep a small, reproducible pilot record

Use a non-production service with a known starting configuration. Record the task, supplied evidence, proposed change and reviewer corrections. Test one complete input, one missing input and one denied approval. For a permitted change, compare the resulting state with the plan and exercise the agreed recovery procedure.

A useful result includes unsuccessful attempts and manual work. Measure review effort and correctness alongside elapsed time. The purpose is to determine whether this workflow is ready for a wider pilot, not to award an autonomy score.

  • Record the repository revision, environment and connector versions.
  • Retain the original plan and the approved scope separately.
  • Document how access was revoked and resulting state was checked.
  • Do not put credentials, personal data or production logs in public examples.
